Participate in Mock Caldecott to choose 2022’s best picture book

Young readers, parents, teachers and children’s picture book enthusiasts are encouraged to actively participate in the Wood County District Public Library’s Mock Caldecott Award program on Jan. 29 from 2-4:00 p.m.

Retired children’s librarian Kathy East will be leading the discussion of titles that can be viewed throughout the month of January in-person at WCDPL’s Explore the Caldecott Award: Interactive Learning Room, or online on the WCDPL YouTube page. While not necessary to view the books ahead of time in order to participate in the Mock Caldecott event, doing so will help you champion your favorite title.

WCDPL is looking for wide participation with as much experience, viewpoints and appreciations as possible. By the end of the program, participants will gain a better understanding of how the Caldecott Medal is chosen, and will vote on WCDPL’s winner and honor books.

On Jan. 30, the American Library Association will choose the winner of the Caldecott Medal. There will be a watch party from 10-11 a.m. in the Children’s Place Quiet Study Room as they announce over 20 awards, including the Newbery and Caldecott medals.

Visit the WCDPL Children’s Place to see the full display of previous winning books and current contenders for the 2023 medal. To learn more, call 419-352-8253, email [email protected] or visit wcdpl.org/mockcaldecott2023.
