Prep Roundup: Lake wrestlers down Otsego, 32-26

In Northern Buckeye Conference wrestling Wednesday, defending league champion Lake got a narrow 32-26 victory over Otsego.

At 126 pounds, Lake’s Vincent Barton defeated Otsego’s Owen Kasza by an 8-3 decision, and at 132, Lake wrestler Micah Balsmeyer won a 5-0 decision over Otsego’s Jake Limes.

At 157, Lake’s Isaiah Reeder won a 16-11 decision over Otsego’s Brayden Sadler, and at 215, Lake’s Ryan Ranes won a 17-1 technical fall over Otsego’s Diego Henderson.

Otsego wrestler Trevor Wilcox pinned Lake’s Brody Barton in 1:33 at 120 pounds, and Otsego’s Caedan Henderson pinned Lake’s Damion Penske in 3:04.

Otsego wrestler Carter Hartman pinned Lake’s Brad Gimenez in 1:04, and Otsego’s Lee Borders defeated Lake’s Anthony Anzaldua, 17-1, taking a technical fall in 5:08.

At 285, Otsego’s Adolfo Martinez-Alba won an 8-1 decision over Lake’s Aden Gilbert Clark.

Lake wrestlers Mason Snyder (106), Ricardo Lecki (113) and Angelo Anzaldua (190) won by forfeit, which was the difference in the match. There were double forfeits at 165 and 175 pounds.

Bowling Green Christian 36, Clyde Harvest Temple 32

CLYDE — The Bowling Green Christian Academy boys basketball team won its fourth consecutive game Tuesday with a 36-32 victory at Harvest Temple Christian Academy.

BGCA junior Will Brose led the Lion charge with 12 points, while junior Jaydin Pinkney had eight, junior Hudson Thomas posted seven, and junior Caleb Kunstmann contributed five.

Pinkney and Thomas paced BGCA with six rebounds each, while junior John Fyfe grabbed five. Junior Brent Boston registered a team-high three assists and six steals. Fyfe, Pinkney, and sophomore Jackson Hammack had one shot block apiece.

Senior Gideon Harner led the Crusaders with 10 points, while sophomore Xander Barnes had nine (all three-pointers).

BGCA scored just two points in the opening quarter and fell behind by as many as seven in the second period before establishing its biggest lead of the night of nine points (24-15) at the 3:30 mark of the third stanza.

The Lions led 26-20 entering the fourth and sealed the win with clutch foul shooting (6-for-9) over the last 86 seconds of the game.

HTCA pulled back to within three points with 16 seconds remaining but would get no closer after a Kunstmann charity stripe score with 8.8 seconds left sealed the win.

BG, 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the ICSO West (second), plays division leader Northwest Ohio on Saturday in Napoleon. The Cougars are currently 5-0 in league play.

Mitch Aring Biddy Brawl

The Eastwood Youth Wrestling Club will be hosting the Mitch Aring Biddy Brawl this Sunday, Jan. 15, along with Northern Buckeye Conference Biddy Tournament on Jan. 29.
