On Jan. 16 at 7 p.m., the City of Bowling Green Human Relations Commission will host the 34th annual tribute to Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event will be held virtually on the city’s YouTube Live channel.

During this event, the Drum Major for Peace Award will be presented. This award is given to someone who benefits the BG community and exemplifies the teaching and the values of King — courage, truth, justice, compassion, dignity, humility and service.

This year’s recipient is Ryan Wichman.

Wichman has been a leader for Wood County Plays, which has installed two inclusive playgrounds in Perrysburg and Bowling Green. He is a meteorologist for WTOL-TV and annually does the commentary for the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce Holiday Parade.

The tribute will feature keynote speaker Katie Bochi, a NICU speech-language pathologist and active member of the Wood County Plays steering committee.

Various musical selections will be performed by Mike Williams on saxophone and Bowling Green State University Music College Faculty Ariel Kasler.
