NY man killed after striking truck on Ohio Turnpike

PERRYSBURG — A New York man died when his van struck a parked tractor trailer on the Ohio Turnpike Wednesday morning.

Evgeny Zolotarev, 61, Brooklyn, was driving a 2017 Ford Sprinter westbound at 12:54 a.m., according to the Bowling Green post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Zolotarev pulled off the right side of the road and struck a commercial tractor trailer parked in an emergency pulloff.

Zolotarev, who was wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Anvar Almsov, 49, Toledo, was not injured. He had pulled off due to engine trouble, according to the patrol.

The Swanton post is investigating the crash.

The patrol was assisted at the scene by Lake Township Fire and EMS, the Lucas County Coroner’s Office, Bubba’s Towing and Ohio Turnpike maintenance.
