Two men from Bryan have pleaded guilty to assault after they beat a man at the side of the road.

Gary Brown, 61, and Tyler Brown, 30, appeared Oct. 25 in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Matt Reger.

The men, who are formerly of Fostoria, were indicted in July for felonious assault, a second-degree felony after they allegedly caused serious physical harm to another man

Both pleaded guilty to the amended charge of aggravated assault, a fourth-degree felony.

According to Wood County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Brian Boos, on March 12, police responded to an emergency call at Weston Road at Hancock Wood County Line Road and spoke with a bystander who observed two men punching and kicking a man who was on the ground.

The two suspects got in their vehicle and drove away.

The suspects acknowledged the physical altercation but claimed the victim swung first and said they left as soon as he fell to the ground.

That is contrary to what the witness told police, Boos said. The victim suffered a subdural hematoma, he said.

Sentencing has been set for Dec 13.

Reger said the maximum prison term is 18 months but is not mandatory or he could impose a jail sentence of up to 180 days.
