The Northwood couple indicted for leaving a child tied up in their motel room have pleaded guilty.

Jason Sosnowicz Sr., 42, appeared Oct. 21 in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Molly Mack.

He had been indicted in August for felonious assault, a second-degree felony, and for knowingly causing physical harm to the child and two counts of endangering children, both third-degree felonies.

Sosnowicz pleaded guilty to those charges as indicted.

His wife, Tabetha Sosnowicz, 38, also was indicted in August for two counts of endangering children, both third-degree felonies.

She pleaded guilty in Mack’s courtroom on Oct. 5 to those charges.

A bill of information against Tabitha Sosnowicz was filed Oct. 4 for endangering children, which accused her of repeatedly administering unwarranted discipline to a 14-year-old between Jan. 1-July 22, when there was a substantial risk that such conduct, if continued, would seriously impair the child’s mental health or development.

She pleaded guilty to that charge without the case being presented to a grand jury.

They were accused of administering corporal punishment or other physical discipline, and restraining a child in a cruel manner for prolonged period. The discipline or restraint was excessive under the circumstances and could cause serious harm, according to the indictment.

There were incidents occurred from July 4-22 and on or about July 22.

They were arrested July 29 after Northwood police responded to the Baymont Inn in the 2000 block of Oregon Road on a welfare check request.

There they found a 12-year-old boy tied with his wrists and ankles behind his back with shoestrings, according to the indictment. He was found on the floor next to the bed.

Jason Sosnowicz Sr., who also was in the room, is the boy’s stepfather, according to Wood County Prosecutor Paul Dobson.

Tabetha Sosnowicz returned shortly after and said she knew the boy was tied up and said they did so to keep him from getting candy while they slept.

According to the indictment, the boy was tied up at approximately 3 a.m. and was still tied up when police arrived at 12:30 p.m.

Jason Sosnowicz will be sentenced Dec. 19. His assault charge qualifies for Reagan Tokes Act sentencing, which will allow Mack to set an indefinite term in prison that is half as much as the minimum sentence.

Tabetha Sosnowicz will be sentenced Nov. 28. She has been granted furlough from the jail for treatment at the Chrysalis in Toledo.
