Anna Ruth (Miller) Glasmire, 96, of Lakeside, Ohio, died on October 12, 2022.

Anna was born in Paradise, Pennsylvania on January 12, 1926. She graduated from East Lampeter HS and joined the New Holland Victory Band as a vocalist and majorette where she met her husband to be, David Glasmire (deceased in 2016). She also worked at her father’s business, Miller’s Restaurant, as a server and baker where she would bake several pies before heading off to school. Ann and Dave married on New Year’s Day 1948 and found their way to Cincinnati, Ohio where Dave completed his bachelor’s and master’s degree in music performance at the Cincinnati Conservatory in 1950. While Dave was completing his degree, their first son was born.

Upon completion of Dave’s degrees at Cincinnati, Dave took a position on the faculty at Bowling Green State University. Ann embraced her role as wife, mother and head of the household and raised four children in partnership with Dave. When Dave spent a year at the University of Iowa to complete his PhD, Ann took a job as head cook at Ridge Street Elementary School to supplement the family income. She remained in that position until Ann and Dave both retired in 1987.

While visiting with friends in Lakeside, Ohio Ann and Dave fell in love with the community and moved shortly thereafter. They became involved in the community and summer Chautauqua season. They joined the Lakeside United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years. Ann started a small business baking bread and pastries. You could see her driving around Lakeside on her adult tricycle making deliveries. She would also give rides on her tricycle to her great grandchildren when they came for visits. In the fall of 2002, Ann and Dave moved into the Otterbein North Shore Retirement Community, where they continued their active involvement, service, and philanthropy. Ann was named Volunteer of the Year in 2015 and

Philanthropist of the Year in 2016.

Ann was a wonderful mother and faithful Christian who lived a full and meaningful life. She welcomed all into her home with an open heart and will be missed immensely by those who knew and loved her. Ann is survived by her sons Larry (Kathy) of Sacramento, CA, Joe (Sandy) of Conifer, CO, John (Ruth) of Bay Village OH, daughter Rebekah Niermann (Steve) of Carrollton, TX, seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. A memorial celebration will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Lakeside United Methodist Church (450 Central Avenue, Lakeside, Ohio 43440), Stein Hospice (1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870), Otterbein Senior Life Retirement Community (9400 North Shore Blvd, Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio 43440), or any charity of your choice.
