BGSU’s Pantig-Nyswtrom co-medalist at Chippewa Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – Bowling Green State University junior golfer Emily Pantig-Nysrom was co-medalist at Central Michigan’s Chippewa Invitational, held Monday and Tuesday. It was her first collegiate tournament.

At the par-72, 5,897-yard Birmingham Country Club, Pantig-Nystrom shot a nine-over-par 74-79—113.

“A huge congratulations to Emily Pantig-Nystrom for winning her first collegiate event,” said BGSU coach Erin Fahey. “She showed unbelievable poise down the stretch and played some great golf. She has worked hard all season, and to end the fall with a win for her is very well deserved.”

The BGSU women’s golf team concluded its fall schedule with a third-place finish. Reigning MAC Co-Golfer of the Week, senior Kayla Davis, finished tied for third at plus-13 (75-82—157) to give BGSU two top-10 finishers.

BGSU sophomore MacKenzie Moore finished tied for No. 14 at 17 over par (81-80—161), while senior Aly Kovach (82-89—171) was tied for 41st.

BGSU freshman Olivia Steen (85-93—178) rounded out the BGSU lineup tied for 58th.

“The team fought some tough conditions today, battling the cold, wind and rain,” Fahey said. “I’m proud of them for fighting through and staying in it.”

Oakland won tournament at 58 over par, followed by Central Michigan (63 over) and BGSU (66).

Following the Falcons were Toledo A (71), Western Michigan (73), Loyola Chicago (77), North Carolina A & T (87), Toledo B (93), Bellarmine (94) and Detroit Mercy (103).

BGSU also had four golfers play as individuals. Sophomore Mallory Swartz (80-89—169) placed tied for 36th and senior Savannah Wyrick (85-87—172) finished tied for 44th.

Senior Amanda Maletich (84-90—174) concluded the tournament 51st. Freshman Averi Michelson (87-88—175) rounds out the BGSU individuals tied for 52nd.

The Falcons return to action in February when BGSU hosts the Falcon Florida Classic in Lakewood, Florida, Feb. 6-7.

Falcons finish 13th

KETTERING, Ohio – The BGSU men’s golf team finished 13th in the the Dayton Flyer Invitational in cold and blustery conditions Monday and Tuesday.

As a team, the Falcons posted a score of 923 at the NCR Country Club, a par-71, 7,004-yard course.

BGSU sophomore Darin Hudak shot 77-79-73—-229, Tom Bell shot 75-77-78—230, Ethan Irving shot 76-82-74—232, Brandon Rattray shot 77-79-78—234 and Dylan Fitcher shot 81-80-78—239.

Golfing as an individual, Brady Pevarnik posted an 83-81-78—239.

Illinois (881) won the event, followed by Marquette (885), Wright State (893), Marshall (894), Illinois State (900), Dayton (903), Ball State (905), Eastern Michigan (908), Loyola Chicago (912), Cleveland State (914), Xavier (915), Oakland (920) and BGSU (923).

The Falcons conclude fall play on Oct. 29-30 at UNC Greensboro’s Grandover Collegiate.
