The Cocoon, Wood County’s comprehensive domestic and sexual violence agency, will be highlighting awareness about domestic violence during October in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The Cocoon will be partnering with Novel Blends and local director Melissa Shaffer to bring a live, 30-minute drama in one act to the community.

“I Dream Before I Take the Stand” centers around a woman attempting to hold her perpetrator accountable while a defense attorney tries to distort her innocent walk through the park. This 30-minute reading is a re-enactment of a small portion of cross-examination of a survivor in a sexual assault case.

The event is being held on Sundays, this weekend and Oct. 23 at Novel Blends, 116 S. Main St. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the performance at 6 p.m. There will be time allotted for questions after the show. Cocoon advocates will be available at the event.

Reservations are not required and there is no cost to attend. Donations will be accepted at the door to benefit programs and services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

In addition, the Cocoon will be hosting the Wood County Clothesline Project on the Bowling Green State University campus on Wednesday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

The Cocoon is available to help anyone experiencing abuse 24/7 every day of the year. A trained advocate can be reached by calling 419-373-1730 and selection option 2. All services are provided at no cost.
