California man arrested in BG for possession of drugs

A California man was arrested for drug possession after police responded to a city hotel parking lot for a reported fight.

On Saturday at 2:36 a.m., Bowling Green police were called to the 1500 block of East Wooster Street for a reported fight in progress.

Upon arrival, police observed a group of people yelling and a man trying to separate people. One of the men saw police arrive and started to walk away from the group, between some vehicles then on the sidewalk toward the front doors of the hotel, according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.

Police observed him remove a clear plastic bag from his pocket and drop it on the ground.

This man was later identified as Freddie Barnes III, 35, of Santa Monica.

There were multiple marijuana joints in the bag and a bag of psilocybin mushrooms was found in a pocket after Barnes was searched, according to the report.

He reportedly told police that he uses psilocybin mushrooms in a medicinal capacity.

Barnes was arrested for aggravated possession of drugs/psilocybin and possession of marijuana.

A judge was called at 3:25 a.m. and bond was set at $15,000 with 10% allowed, according to the report.

Barnes was taken to the police station where he posted bond.

The bag contained nine marijuana joints and weighed 11.1 grams. The psilocybin mushroom weighed 2.7 grams.
