AKRON — Akron found the perfect tonic to remain in the chase for a berth in the Mid-American Conference
men’s basketball tournament semifinals.
The Zips had lost three straight conference games going into Saturday’s home contest against Bowling
Green.
Akron pulled away in the second half to post a 57-47 win over the Falcons. It was BG’s 11th straight loss
to Akron and the 19th loss in the last 20 games.
‘‘It was a tough night offensively … We hurt ourselves, and just couldn’t get going offensively,’’ BG
head coach Louis Orr said.
The Falcons shot 35.3 percent from the field, including 15.4 percent on 3-pointers (2-of-13).
Turnovers were the Falcons’ main downfall as the Zips scored 22 points off BG’s 20 turnovers.
“Turnovers were our biggest enemy,’’ Orr said.
The Falcons fell behind 7-0, but rallied to trail only 20-18 at the half.
BG tied the game twice in the second half, the final time at 34 with 11:24 remaining on a basket by
Cameron Black.
The Zips then put together a 15-2 run to take a 49-36 lead with 4:38 left in the game. In the run, the
Falcons were 1-of-4 from the field with six turnovers.
BG battled back to within 54-45 on a Spencer Parker 3-pointer with 1:36 left, but could get no closer.

‘‘We have just got to keep fighting,’’ Orr said.
Richaun Holmes led the Falcons with 14 points and added nine rebounds, Parker scored 12 points, going
7-of-10 from the free-throw line, while Black had his fourth double-double of the season with 10 points
and 11 rebounds
Anthony Henderson returned to BG’s starting lineup after missing last Wednesday’s game with Kent State
with a sprained ankle. Henderson played 33 minutes and had two points and seven rebounds,
Demetrius Treadwell scored 17 points and reached 1,000 career points to lead the Zips.
NOTES: BG is 12-17 overall and 6-10 in the MAC while Akron is 18-11, 10-6 … BG held a 39-35 rebounding
edge, and had a 12-4 advantage on second-chance points … BG’s starting five each played more than 33
minutes … The Falcons’ bench did not score or have a rebound … Holmes (four) and Black (three)
combined for seven blocked shots … BG hosts Ohio on Tuesday with tipoff at 7 p.m. for the final home
game of the season and Senior Night.
