Toledo Zoo welcomes seniors

TOLEDO – Age has its benefits. With free admission Tuesdays and special events, Senior Discovery Days let
provides a way for seniors to explore the Toledo Zoo and see it in a whole new way. In addition to those
Tuesdays, the zoo has set Sept. 7 as "Grandparents Day" and "Day of Honor."
Each Tuesday (September 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, along with October 7, 14, 21, and 28) brings a new
adventure at the Zoo, from guided tours of Works Progress Administration (WPA)-era buildings to bingo
and big band music. In addition to these Tuesday events, each weekday offers free parking in the Anthony
Wayne Trail lot, free fresh-brewed coffee and a mini-muffin in the Zoo’s North Star Trading Post (10
a.m. to 2 p.m.) and more.
A Senior Safari is set for Sept. 16. The zoo and the Area Office of Aging Northwestern Ohio present this
day focused on seniors, including health screenings, exercise, safety tips. As an optional extra, lunch
will be available in the Nairobi Pavilion; tickets may be purchased in advance by calling 419-382-0624.

Grandparents Day provides free admission to grandparents as long as they are accompanied by at least one
grandchild. Other free benefits that day include activities in the Nature’s Neighborhood, and the
children’s zoo. It is also Day of honor allowing all military personnel, police officers, firefighters
and EMTs get free Zoo admission on this day, when they show their badge or professional ID. Visitors can
also sign giant thank-you cards for their communities’ First Responders, and check out some cool
vehicles, too!

Forest, Penguin Beach leads you right through the penguins’ exhibit. Just a couple minutes away near the
zoo’s Broadway entrance, ‘Keet Retreat offers a fun walk-through encounter with these little birds.
In September and October, the zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends in
September) and is located on the Anthony Wayne Trail.
