Shakespeare Round Table – Group news

The annual social banquet for the Shakespeare Round Table was held at SamB’s Restaurant on April 30.
President Jan Knape welcomed 18 active members, associate member Nadine Edwards, and 11 guests. The
group studied “Titus Andronicus” during the fall study session and “As You Like It” in the spring.
Knape provided a year-in-review summary, highlighting the 10 research papers members contributed (one for
each study meeting), the social meeting activities, and the work of the various committees. She also
thanked officers for the 2018-19 study year: vice president Peg Baker, secretary Patti Rish and
treasurer Kathy East.
She also thanked program committee chair Peg Baker, library committee chair Kacee Ferrell-Snyder, and
their committee members.
The tables were decorated with spring napkins in a variety of bright colors, rustic burlap with lace,
wood slices, and wildflowers to suggest the forests that were a major motif in both of this year’s
plays. Small scrolls adorned with flowers, containing the lyrics to the five songs in “As You Like It,”
decorated each napkin.
The committee chose a delicious buffet menu of roast pork loin, chicken piccata, vegetable lasagna, and
side dishes, prepared and served by SamB’s staff. This year’s banquet committee was chaired by PRish,
and assisted by Baker, Kacee Ferrell-Snyder, Becky Hansen and Diane Vogtsberger.
After member Kay Heffernan’s invocation, members enjoyed their meals.
After dinner, members were treated to desserts and a performance by the Black Swamp Winds, a quintet of
flute, clarinet, bassoon, oboe and horn. The performance was Renaissance-era themed, with performers
providing researched background on songs and arrangements as they played each piece.
