Demolition crews tear down the former Ridge Elementary building Tuesday morning. The
three-story school, built in 1931, was closed last year as a cost-saving measure by the Bowling Green
Board of Education. Prior to the construction of any brick building on the land, a single-story frame
building was moved from a South Grove Street site for classes. The first brick school there was built in
1886. The Bowling Green Normal College formerly played football games in the school’s playground area,
and a horse’s skeleton was unearthed in 1951. The city purchased the three-acre site last fall with the
intent of putting a public park on the grounds. The demolition is expected to be finished, and the site
seeded with grass, by the end of the month. (Photos: J.D. Pooley/Sentinel-Tribune) SEE MORE PHOTOS
