New trial date for Ohio sheriff in corruption case

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — A new trial date has been set for an Ohio sheriff facing 25 charges in a corruption
case.
Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly has pleaded innocent to charges including theft in office, tampering with
records and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and is confident he will be exonerated.
The Athens Messenger reported Thursday (http://bit.ly/1tZrGXk ) that Judge Patricia Cosgrove rescheduled
Kelly’s September trial to Jan. 26.
The paper says Kelly’s defense lawyer wants a delay because of the “voluminous” amount of records in the
case.
Cosgrove says moving the trial out of Athens County is unlikely and would be done only as a last resort
