Higgins earns service award

The Northwestern Ohio Education Association (NWOEA) has presented Stacey Higgins, a member of the Bowling
Green Education Association, the NWOEA Local Service Award.
The award was presented to Higgins at the district’s annual awards banquet, held at the Findlay Country
Club on Tuesday.
In her 18th year of teaching, Higgins has taught reading and preschool and currently teaches second grade
for the Bowling Green City Schools.
For the past eight years she has been a building representative and has served on the Communications and
Negotiations Survey Committees for the Bowling Green Education Association.
She has been a delegate at the Ohio Education Association Representative Assembly for the past two years
and this year volunteered to serve as a member on the NWOEA Professional Development Committee and as
the NWOEA representative on the OEA Local Development and Training Core Function Committee.
She also represented NWOEA as a delegate at the 2012 National Education Association Representative
Assembly.
Higgins is a BGSU adjunct instructor for students entering the education profession. She has served on
several Ohio Department of Education committees over the last 10 years and is currently a member of the
ODE Grade 3 Reading Rangefinding Committee.
Since 2011, she has been a National Advisory Board member for Scholastic Inc. In 2008 she was awarded the
Milken Educator of the Year Award for Ohio. Her two daughters keep her busy as she helps with their
soccer and dance teams and Brownie Troop.
