Ernest Szabo, 86, of Bowling Green, passed away on August 2, 2014.
He was born on September 15, 1927 in Cleveland to Andrew and Agnes (Farkas) Szabo. He married Mary Lou
Gibson on February 13, 1960 and she survives.
He was the owner of Ernie’s Auto Wrecking & E & M Recycling, Portage, Ohio.
Ernie was a member of the Operating Engineer’s Union and worked for Gerkin Paving and Sader Paving
Companies. Earlier he had been a tomato farmer.
He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Bowling Green. Ernie was also a member of the Eagles,
Maumee-BG Elk’s Club, and the VFW.
He served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War II.
Ernie was inducted into the Bowling Green Bowling Hall of Fame. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, reverse
raffles, and a good game of dice.
Surviving in addition to his wife Mary Lou are sons: Timothy, Jeffrey (Dianna) and Donald, all of Bowling
Green, Michael of Dublin; daughters: Mary Ann (Craig) Mason of Findlay, Kathy (Jim) Starek of
Strongsville and Donna Jean Szabo of West Covina, CA; one brother: Albert "Frank" (Pat) of
Bowling Green. Also left to mourn his passing are grandchildren: Joshua and Chelsea Mason, Anna Szabo,
Kyra and Logan Starek.
His parents and brother, William, preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church beginning
at 10 a.m.. Father Mark Davis will officiate followed by interment at Oak Grove Cemetery. Military rites
will be conducted by the Wood County Honor Detail.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at DUNN FUNERAL HOME located in
Bowling Green’s Historical District at 408 W. Wooster St.
Those wishing to give an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Aloysius Catholic Church School
or the Dean Moosman Jr. Bowlers Scholarship Fund.
