ANNIVERSARY: Bernard & Gertrude Wittenmyer

Bernard "Barney" and Gertrude (Chambers) Wittenmyer of Salem, formerly of Portage, celebrated
their 70th wedding anniversary at the Dutch House Restaurant in Hartville, with family and friends.
The couple was married Dec. 28, 1943 in Greenup, Ky.
They have five children, Beverly (Mike) Ballard, Weston; JoAnne Collins, Salem; Charlene (Leonard)
Collins, Barberton; Peggy (Dave) Furin, Fort Pierce, Fla.; and Dan (Lyn) of Lisbon. There are 15
grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
The couple owned the Tammy Lee Restaurant in Portage in the 1960s. Gertrude Wittenmyer also worked at the
former Rollers’ Bowling Green Nursing Home on Wooster Street.
Barney Wittenmyer worked at Atlas Crankshaft, Fostoria, and then worked for 17 years at NRM in Columbiana
before retiring.
