KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Jehvon Clarke and Anthony Henderson hit big baskets late in the game to help the
Bowling Green Falcon men’s basketball team rally for a 69-64 win over Western Michigan Sunday.
‘‘It was a must-win; we needed this win,’’ said Henderson, a redshirt junior.
Clarke hit a clutch 3-pointer from the left wing with the shot clock winding down to put the Falcons up
65-64 with 1:33 left in regulation.
On WMU’s next two possessions, the Falcons forced a turnover and the Broncos missed two free throws.
Henderson capped off his career-high 27-point scoring effort with a layup with 15 seconds remaining.
BG’s Richaun Holmes was double-teamed in the corner, but the 6-foot-8 junior fired a two-handed bullet
pass to Henderson, who was all alone underneath the basket.
Henderson hit the uncontested layup to put BG up three.
Western Michigan missed a 3-pointer on its next possession, and Holmes was fouled grabbing the rebound.
He made two free throws to close things out.
‘‘We hit some big, big shots, which is what you need on the road,’’ BG head coach Louis Orr said. ‘‘We
scrapped, we pressured, and we gave ourselves a chance.
‘‘I give our guys credit for not giving up … creating opportunities, and working hard,’’ he added.
Bowling Green started quickly and led by seven points, 14-7, just 5:05 into the game.
Western Michigan came back to take a 38-27 halftime lead.
The Broncos bumped their lead to 15, 50-35, with 14:33 left in the game.
‘‘Fourteen minutes is a lot of time. Everybody just kept that mentality in their head, and kept
playing,’’ Henderson said.
The Falcons’ pressure defense also played a role in the comeback. The Broncos had 10 turnovers in the
final 12:40 of the game. For the game, BG scored 24 points off WMU’s 18 turnovers.
Orr said Demarkeo Lyshe came off the bench to give BG a spark, applying pressure on the ball. He also had
three rebounds and hit a 3-pointer.
‘‘The last 10 minutes of the ball game cost us,” WMU head coach Steven Hawkins said. “We played OK in
spots through the first 30. If you were to look at the numbers, other than the turnover part, looked
like you played decent enough to win. But, anybody that was at the game could tell who the most
aggressive team was and that was Bowling Green. They had the tempo. They pushed us all night. Even when
we got out to a 15-point lead I still felt like they were being pretty aggressive. They outplayed us.’’

Henderson was 10-of-16 from the field, including 7-of-10 on 3-pointers, for his career night. He also had
four steals and two assists, with no turnovers.
‘‘I got a lot of open looks. It was a lot of broken plays where I was just spotting up, and they were
just going in,’’ said Henderson.
Also for BG, Spencer Parker scored 13 points, Clarke finished with 12 points, five assists, and four
steals, and Holmes battled foul trouble to contribute 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, and three
blocked shots.
NOTES: BG is 8-9 overall and 2-2 in the Mid-American Conference, having won two straight … WMU is 9-7,
2-2 … The Falcons scored 34 points in the final 14:12 of the game … For the game, BG was 10-of-18
(55.6 percent) on 3-pointers … Only three Falcons went to the free-throw line in the game … BG’s
Cameron Black had a team-high six rebounds and he surpassed the 500 rebound mark
