Wood County Garden Club
Audrey Palumbo, many times a blue ribbon winner, will be giving the program on "Everything About
Roses" at the Wood County Garden Club’s fall meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m., being hosted by the
Weston Garden Club.
The meeting will be held at the Portage Methodist Church on West Main Street. A short business meeting
will be held and members are encouraged to bring plants and flower bulbs to sell to others. Guests are
welcome.
Mental Culture Club
The Mental Culture Club met in the Pemberville Library’s Community Room Oct. 14.
President Sherrie Sheffler invited Jane Kohlenberg, head of the library, to explain the needs for the
library’s 0.8-mill levy on the ballot in the November election.
Eighteen members named a famous or infamous murder for roll call.
Mary Kuhlman and her daughter, Kathy Wilhelm, gave a book review of "Duel with the Devil" by
Paul Collins. The book is a true account of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr who joined forces to
defend a young carpenter, Levi Weeks, for the 1799 murder of a young New York City woman, Elma Sands.
The court room battle has been labeled America’s first sensational murder trial and oldest cold case.
