WASHINGTON (AP) — Jay Gruden has agreed to become the head coach of the Washington Redskins.
The Redskins confirmed Thursday that Gruden has accepted the job and will be introduced at an afternoon
news conference.
The
46-year-old Gruden has spent the last three seasons as the offensive
coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals, where he helped develop Andy
Dalton. Now he’ll have the task of working with another young franchise
quarterback, Robert Griffin III.
Gruden, the brother of former NFL
head coach Jon Gruden, had drawn interest from at least three other
teams seeking to fill a head coaching vacancy. He interviewed with the
Tennessee Titans on Tuesday.
Gruden replaces Mike Shanahan, who was fired last week after a 3-13 season.
