The insanity plea hearing for a woman facing vehicular homicide charges in the 2013 deaths of her infant
twins has been pushed back.
The matter was heard in the courtroom of Wood County Judge Alan Mayberry on Friday.
Lori Massingill, 39, Ida, Mich., was indicted last year on two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide
and one count of endangering children. All are third-degree felonies. The charges stem from a Nov. 12,
2013, crash on Fostoria Road, just south of Ohio 163 in Troy Township, on the extreme eastern border
with Ottawa County.
According to the Bowling Green Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Massingill was northbound on
Fostoria road at a high rate of speed when she struck a railroad crossing. The vehicle went airborne and
traveled off the right side of the roadway. It then re-entered the roadway, drove off the left side,
striking a ditch and rolling twice.
Massingill’s 7-week-old twin children were in the vehicle at the time.
The female twin, Presley, was pronounced dead at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, shortly after
the crash. The male twin, Parker, was taken to the University of Michigan Children’s Hospital, and died
two days later.
The twins, according to a State Trooper, were not properly restrained.
Alcohol was not found to be a factor in the crash.
Massingill, represented by attorney J. Scott Hicks, is currently listed as an inmate at the Wood County
jail.
In late January, the court issued an order for a psychiatric and psychological evaluation by the Court
Diagnostic and Treatment Center to determine if Massingill could be found criminally responsible.
The not guilty by reason of insanity hearing was originally scheduled for Feb. 27, but, according to
court documents, it was determined Massingill required "further evaluation time" and the
matter was continued to the Friday date. The hearing is now scheduled for June 24 at 1:30 p.m.
