Edward F. Copus, age 79, of McComb, died Wednesday January 15, 2014 3:44 a.m. at Blanchard Valley
Hospital in Findlay.
He was born October 10, 1934 on a farm west of Hoytville to J. Cloyce and J. Geneva (Bennett) Copus. On
January 25, 1953 he married Mary Leatherman and she survives in McComb.
Also surviving are two sons, Joe (Patty) Copus of Woodlands, TX; James (Shirley) Copus of Sycamore, and a
daughter, Mary Beth (Owen) Lydic of Albany, OH. There are six grandchildren: Tiffany Sheridan, Jenni
Copus, James Copus, Jahanna Lydic, Kevin Copus, Casey Copus; and three great-grandchildren: Abigail,
Audra, and Daniel Sheridan. Also surviving are three sisters: Katie (Allen) Myers of McComb, Stella
(Bob) Blake of North Baltimore, and Helen Haas of North Baltimore.
Mr. Copus was preceded in death by brothers: James, David, and Joe Copus; and sisters: Jesse Brumbaugh,
Dorothy Williams, Mildred Williams, Ruth Johnston, and an infant sister Becky.
Mr. Copus was a 1952 graduate of Jackson Township High School in Hoytville. He took Rubber Polymer
classes at Ashland University.
He worked in the Rubber Industry for 50 years as a Polymer Chemist for Johnson Rubber in Middlefield, OH;
and Norbalt Rubber in North Baltimore. After retirement as a consultant for rubber companies.
Mr. Copus was a member of the McComb United Methodist Church, where he was past chairman of the trustees
and served on finance and administration boards of the church. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias
since 1953, he was twice Chancellor 50 years and Commander. He became a 32nd Degree Master Mason in
April 1963. He was a member of the North Baltimore F&AM Lodge #561 and was an officer from
1996-1997. Mr. Copus was also a member of the Valley of Toledo Scottish Rite Lodge, and became a Shriner
in April 1994 with the Zenobia Temple.
Visitation will be on Friday January 17, 2014 at the HARTLEY FUNERAL HOME in McComb from 3 to 8 p.m. with
a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m.
The Funeral service will be on Saturday, January 18, 2014 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Pastor Tom
Bolton officiating. Burial will be in McComb Union Cemetery.
