DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Transportation crews have begun cleaning up highways overwhelmed by flash floods that
trapped drivers in deep water and stopped traffic for hours in southwest Ohio.
The Ohio Department of Transportation plans to study the flooding and issue a report.
The Dayton Daily News reports (bit.ly/1k9OFZn) that portions of two highways were badly hit: Interstate
75 in Miami County, which had flooding in two locations, and I-70 in Huber Heights, where drivers had to
be rescued from vehicles stranded in high water.
Ohio transportation department manager Bob Lenzer says the I-70 flooding was the worst interstate
flooding in 30 years. He says his crews cleaned a three-quarter-inch silt deposit off the highway.
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base got 3.55 inches of rain during the storm that started Wednesday and
continued Thursday.
