The Wood County Committee on Aging Inc. (WCCOA) put out a public plea Monday urging the public, older
adults, and families and friends of older adults to be on the lookout for a scam involving someone using
the Wood County Committee on Aging name fraudulently.
WCCOA was informed of the scam by a WCCOA client living outside of Hoytville, in the southwestern corner
of the county.
"The client informed us that a woman called him on Saturday, April 12, and began asking him personal
questions and then moved towards insurance questions," according to a press release issued by the
agency. The woman told the senior citizen she was representing the Wood County Committee on Aging.
"The client did the right thing and refused to answer any more questions and followed up with the
Wood County Committee on Aging by calling us," the release said. The woman appeared to be an
insurance agent misrepresenting herself.
"WCCOA does not make unprompted calls such as this regarding medical or long term care insurance. If
you or someone you know receives a call like this, please do not give out any information" and
contact the Wood County Committee on Aging at 419-353-5661.
The county senior center staff requested that area residents inform any older adults they know, including
parents and friends, of this scam "and be sure to report it to us."
