Catherine M. Bankey, age 86, of Risingsun, died Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Blanchard Valley Hospital in
Findlay.
She was born February 16, 1928 in Cottageville, WV, the daughter of Harry and Lizzie (Durst) Kemenah. She
married Robert W. Bankey on October 9, 1946 in Wayne.
She is survived by her children, Sonja (Mickey) Cunningham of Risingsun, Terry W. (Patricia) Bankey of
Wayne; grandchildren, Troy (Jennifer) Bankey, Derek (Jennifer) Bankey, Brett (Amber) Bankey, Kalen
(Alisha) Bankey, Matt (Ellen) Cunningham; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister, Anna (Jim) Bateson.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Marvin, Frances, and Harry; and sister,
Aurilla.
Catherine was involved in the Wayne Garden Club (52 years), 4-H advisor (five years), and the Wayne
Mother’s Club that helped start Wayne’s first kindergarten class.
Throughout her life, she was a farmer, custodian at Elmwood School System, and an employee at Wood County
Nursing Home. Catherine was a hard-working, feisty, passionate person who loved to keep up on current
events, and didn’t mind discussing them with people. She enjoyed going to alumni banquets and spending
time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Per Catherine’s request, there will be a graveside service 11 a.m. Saturday, October 18 at Graham
Cemetery in Wayne with Pastor John Amstutz officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Wayne Library or the Wayne Church of Christ c/o the funeral home.
