LOS ANGELES – Bowling Green’s women’s basketball team advanced to the championship game of the Loyola
Marymount Thanksgiving Classic with a 62-54 win over UC Irvine Friday afternoon.
Erica Donovan led the Falcons with 13 points and 12 rebounds and Rachel Myers had 10 points.
Bowling Green shot 33.9 percent from the floor (21-of-62) in the win, but held UC Irvine to 31.4 percent
(22-of-70).
"We had prepped entirely for a zone and they came out in a man against us and our kids were able to
adjust," Falcons coach Jennifer Roos said.
"We got some good driving looks to the hoop and some good looks from the arc that didn’t fall,"
she said.
Bowling Green will play host Loyola Marymount tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the championship game after it beat
UAM 66-61 Friday.
The Falcons had 31 points off the bench as every player logged at least eight minutes of action with all
but one player scoring.
"We were able to turn the corner after he set some good ball screens," Roos said.
"We were playing with the lead the majority of the time so we were learning how to play with a lead
and how to hold on."
Bowling Green took a 31-24 lead into halftime and extended that lead to 61-34 with 4:50 to play before UC
Irvine made a late push.
"We just ran out of gas a little bit and they hit a couple 3-pointers," Roos said.
"Overall we had good balance.
"The mentality of survive and advance was definitely coming into play for our kids."
