BG Manor’s team uses bacon for Throwdown title

Bowling Green Manor, led by Anne Hodulik, was chosen as the overall Wood County Throwdown Champion in the
contest held Oct. 11 at Penta Career Center.
Five chefs and cooks from the area battled it out for the title in the sampling event, which was
sponsored by the Wood County Committee on Aging.
The WCCOA entries took People’s Choice honors for both appetizer and dessert, while the Grand Rapids Care
Center was recognized as the choice for its entrée.
In addition to Hodulick, participants included the WCCOA team led by Joseph Hrabovsky; the Grand Rapids
team, led by Adam Foltz along with Sterling House of Bowling Green, led by James Price and Spring
Meadows Extended Care Facility, led by Randy Urbanowicz.
Each team served an appetizer, main course and dessert for more than 125 guests.  Celebrity judges,
including Wood County Commissioner Doris Herringshaw and George Kamilaris of Georgio’s Café
International, chose the overall champion.
Hodulik included bacon in all three of her courses, including her appetizer, bacon wrapped shrimp, main
dish, stuffed shells, and dessert, dark chocolate bacon cupcakes.
When asked why she chose a bacon theme for her dishes, Hodulik replied "I just thought who doesn’t
love bacon?"
Hodulik has been a cook at Bowling Green Manor for more than 22 years. She enjoys cooking both at work
and home.
Her team consisted of fellow co-workers, of which she said, "I respect them. We work together well
as a team and I’m so proud of what we accomplished."
Although Hodulik knew she had a great team, she didn’t expect to win.
"Every single team who competed was great, they were all so creative," she said. "The
energy and challenge of the competition was just so exciting."
The people’s choice winners were WCCOA’s crab toast appetizer and pumpkin pecan dessert. The main dish
winner was Grand Rapids’ marinated fish.
All of Hodulik’s Throwdown recipes, along with recipes from other participants can be found on WCCOA’s
blog and Facebook page, which are linked at www.wccoa.net.
