PEMBERVILLE — McComb took full advantage of Eastwood’s errant ways Thursday afternoon in a non-league
baseball game.
The Eagles (7-6) committed seven errors and their three pitchers combined for eight walks as the Panthers
(9-4) rolled to an 11-1 win. The game was called after six innings due to the mercy rule.
“They had six hits and 15 free base runners. that’s a recipe for disaster,” Eastwood head coach Kevin
Leady said. “When you give 15 free ones it comes back to hit you pretty quickly.”
McComb had base runners in every inning scored in four different innings.
“You can’t give extra outs. With seven errors we played into the 10th inning when you think about it; and
they (McComb) didn’t have too,” Leady said.
Meanwhile Eastwood was also struggling with runners in scoring position. The Eagles had four batters
reach base on hit by pitches and added two walks with four hits and had base runners in all six innings.

However, Eastwood could not get a key hit in the game, leaving seven runners in scoring position.
“That has been one of our big things recently,” Leady said. “We haven’t been able to have a key hit. In
the last couple of losses we have had that opportunity, and we just haven’t come through.
“We need a guy to step up in a big situation and get one of those key hits, but we haven’t been able to.”

McComb scored a run in the second inning and added two more runs in the third.
In the top of the fourth inning, the game was blown wide open as the Panthers sent 10 batters to the
plate, scoring six runs to make it 9-0. Kyle Wasson hit a two-RBI double in the inning. Wasson had two
hits and three RBI in the in addition to pitching the final two innings.
McComb added two more runs in the sixth inning to make it 11-0.
Eastwood finally found the scoreboard in the sixth inning when Paul Smith walked with one out and later
scored on a wide pitch.
Justin Pickerel had two of Eastwood’s four hits, including a double.
“We had been playing pretty solid baseball in the last couple of weeks. Some of our games have been tight
and we have been fighting tooth and nail,” Leady said.
