ANAHEIM, Calif. — Bowling Green High School’s DECA chapter had a strong showing at the 2017
International Career Development Conference, with Jillian Crowe finishing in the top 10 for Automotive
Services Marketing.
Crowe, who won first place at Ohio DECA’s Career Development Conference in March, was on the stage in the
top 10 during Saturday’s Grand Awards Session after competing in a series of testing and preliminary
competitions.
BGHS DECA sent three students in total to the international event. Also competing in Anaheim were Makai
Ruffin in Principles of Business Management and Administration and Ayla Arrington in Principles of
Finance. Ruffin and Arrington did not make the top 10, but achieved third and fourth places,
respectively, in the state competition earlier, which enabled them to go to Anaheim.
The international competition recognized performers from all 50 United States, Canada, China, Guam,
Puerto Rico and Spain. More than 18,000 DECA members and advisers and business people attended this
year’s international event, which was held at the Anaheim Convention Center from April 26-29. This event
also highlighted innovative business partnerships that encourage these emerging business leaders and
future entrepreneurs to embrace the challenges of an ever-evolving and difficult economic landscape.
The BGHS DECA chapter is led by Cara Maxey. The chapter is a satellite program of Penta Career Center.
