Home+Garden show kicks off season

Many of those attending the seventh annual Home+Garden and RV Show at the Stroh Center on Saturday were
looking for ideas for their gardens. They were widely available.
A weeping cherry tree was the dominant feature of the North Branch Nursery exhibit.
“It’s one of our most popular flowering trees,” said Karen Himelhan, an assistant landscape manager and
designer at the Pemberville nursery.
“It was great that it was currently blooming so we could bring it,” she added.
The display also featured the popular rhododendron and rug juniper plants.
“I’ve talked to a lot of people already today,” Himelhan said after about two hours of the six-hour show.

She said a lot of homeowners were looking primarily for landscaping and lighting ideas.
She also spoke of the many current customers who stopped to say hi or just chat about the status of work
previously done by the company.
In addition to North Branch, both D&D Landscape and Mid-Wood Inc. were on hand at the show.
Both had various mulch products displayed for people to see the wide variety — as many as a dozen choices
were available including various types and colors. Depending on the choice, the mulch is available
either in bulk or in bags, with a few varieties offered both ways.
Both companies agreed that by far, the most popular color choice of mulch for homeowners is black.
Commercial customers tend to stay with more natural looking colors and styles.
The displays also showcased gravel and rocks, which are increasingly popular for many consumers as a
replacement or accent for mulch. Bird feeders were also featured including various birdseeds.
Shirley Strausbaugh of Bowling Green was pleased with the information she received from Mid-Wood about
her yard and dealing with ground moles. Mary Green noted her pleasure with pavers she found, which she
plans to use for the patio at her and husband Al’s new home.
Beyond those businesses at the Home+Garden show, look for other nurseries and garden centers to be very
busy in the coming weeks.
