Norma Hatch Nelson passed away suddenly on June 10, 2015 in Perrysburg, OH at the age of 90 years.
Norma was born July 30, 1924 in Boston, MA and grew up in Damariscotta, Maine.
She served as a SPAR in the Coast Guard during WW II and graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY
with a degree in Home Economics.
Norma married Roger Warren Nelson in 1950 and settled in Connecticut, where they raised their three sons,
living in Salisbury, Middlefield and New Britain.
Norma taught home economics at the Durham High School, worked as an administrative assistant at the
Independent Day School in Middlefield and also for ARA food services in the Bloomfield school system and
at Central Connecticut State University. She also worked at American Greetings in Newington.
She was an avid gardener, accomplished baker and enthusiastic pet lover.
After Roger Nelson passed away unexpectedly in a car accident in 1983, Norma retired to Melbourne, FL
before returning to West Hartford, CT and then relocating again to Perrysburg, Ohio.
Norma is survived by her three sons, Stephen Nelson and his wife Valerie Wilson of Thornton, NH, Jeff and
his wife Sharon Nelson of Perrysburg, OH and Peter Nelson and his wife Sally Roy of New York. She will
also be missed by her four grandchildren, Grace, Carrie, Gabriel and Christine of Perrysburg, OH, and
many nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held in Damariscotta, ME at a later date.
