CINCINNATI (AP) — A Cincinnati city councilman running for U.S. Senate proposes six debates around Ohio
with his Democratic opponent.
P.G. Sittenfeld says he and former Gov. Ted Strickland should have issue-oriented sessions to engage,
excite and inform voters. He also says the two can use social media to reach more people in "a new
kind of debate for a new era in politics."
The 30-year-old councilman has rejected suggestions Democrats should unite behind Strickland, a former
congressman, in their quest to unseat Republican Sen. Rob Portman. Sittenfeld says Democrats should have
a choice and that new leadership is needed in Washington.
A Strickland spokesman says Sittenfeld hadn’t contacted Strickland about the proposal made Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Don Elijah Eckhart of the Columbus area says he plans to challenge Portman in the GOP primary.
