CINCINNATI (AP) — A mother and daughter have been charged
with stealing some $260,000 from a southwest Ohio village — allegedly
pocketing traffic fines being paid in a community long reputed to be a
speed trap.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters (Dee-TUHRS’)
announced the indictments Tuesday, and suggested that the village of
Arlington Heights should be dissolved. The prosecutor says the tiny
community on Interstate 75 just north of Cincinnati appears to be
"nothing more than a speed trap." Deters says the village could be
absorbed by surrounding municipalities.
Former village employees
52-year-old Donna Covert and 32-year-old Laura Jarvis are each charged
with two counts of theft of office, two counts of tampering with records
and one property-misuse count. Arrest warrants were being issued. No
attorneys were listed for them.
