PERRYSBURG – A magical downtown this holiday season will be enjoyed by visitors and residents alike due
to a joint effort led by the local Country Garden Club, with the City of Perrysburg Street Division and
Mainstreet Perrysburg.
The concept for 2009 is to have a unified winter scene running down Louisiana Avenue between Front and
Indiana Streets. Each merchant on Louisiana Avenue receives a live wreath with a red bow, while
sidewalks are being lined by 40 small live trees with twinkle lights and topped with red bows.
The trees, placed in tubs donated by Mainstreet Perrysburg, will be donated by the Country Garden Club to
the City of Perrysburg for planting in public areas after the holidays. Each evening throughout the
season two large trees will be lit at Front and Indiana.
Also, 28 light poles will be dressed with red snowmen banners and live garland. The four main poles at
the two ends of the gateway will have lush 50-foot live garlands. The garlands are being assembled with
string instead of wire, so they can be mulched, an effort by the Country Garden Club to have
"green" decorations this year.
Finally, even the city entrances with walls to accommodate wreaths and garlands will be decorated by the
city as a finishing touch to the club’s project.
The project is being funded by the Country Garden Club with proceeds from its annual fundraiser, the
Holiday Trunk Show.
Christmas Decorations Committee members for Country Garden Club are Susan Stahl, Ginger Knudson, Meig
McIntyre, Candy Millon, Margaret Hedlund and CGC President Linda Swemba.
