Everything is ‘possible’ with senior fair board

Much of Thursday’s November board meeting for the Wood County Agricultural Society dealt with
possibilities.
Better known as the Senior Fair Board, the group heard about possible concert acts for next year’s fair;
possible future conventions which may use the fairgrounds; possible budget items; and the possible use
of one of the rooms by a local amateur radio club.
One of the biggest possibilities involved the entertainment committee. David Nietz, chairman, reported on
the recent meeting with the fair board’s promoter regarding possible acts to appear at the fair.
He indicated that two shows held last year – the clown show and the motorcycle stunt show – will not
appear at the 2010 fair.
Nietz did indicate the committee "thought this might be the year to try for something
different."
The annual concert at the fair has been almost exclusively country music acts in recent years.
This year, the committee is looking to bring a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame act to the county fair stage.
There is nothing definite at this time, the committee simply sought and received approval to spend a
little extra money if the right act can be signed.
Nietz suggested the possibility of raising the price of seats in the front two sections of the track area
to $27.50. The remainder of the track would remain at $25 per ticket. Grandstand and side bleacher seats
would be $20.
Wendy Stram, executive director of the Bowling Green Convention and Visitors Bureau, visited the meeting
to formally thank the fair board for its cooperation in hosting part of last summer’s motor coach
convention.
Stram also noted a similar organization is currently looking at Bowling Green as a possible host for a
similar event. She also asked for the board members to help spread the word to other groups or
organizations which could bring a district or regional meeting or convention to BG.
Two members of the Wood County Amateur Radio Club requested the board allow them to use one small room in
the Administration Building for their radios. At one time the group did use the room, but no longer has
a base of operations. The board took no action on their request.
The board again touched on possible improvements to the Fine Arts Building, as well as some other
projects on the grounds. The board approved allowing the Junior Fair Board to paint the beef and swine
barns.
The board is still exploring the possibility of a second marquee sign to be located along Haskins Road.
The board approved extending the deadline to recruit sponsors until Dec. 31.
Treasurer Dale Brown reviewed some of the budget requests indicating he will have a complete budget
prepared for the December meeting.
Items on the agenda which were finalized included board president Rod Lucas appointing Connie Grames as
chairperson of the newly formed constitution and bylaws committee.
Other board members volunteered and were added to the list of its members.
The board also made the final plans for their appearance in the Bowling Green Holiday Parade this
morning.
Darrell Hentges announced the Catch-a-pig sale will be held on Dec. 5. Weigh-in begins at 8 a.m. The show
will start at 10 a.m. followed by the sale at 1 p.m.
The December meeting will be the annual Christmas party on Dec. 17. It will begin with dinner for invited
members and guests at 6:30 p.m. in the Junior Fair Building, followed by the business meeting.
