PERRYSBURG – The 2009 Sweet Success Gala for Diabetes Youth Services is Nov. 6 at the Carranor Hunt
& Polo Club from 6:30 to 10 p.m.
Golf professional Rick Smith and his wife Tricia are honorary chairpersons. The Smiths are parents to a
daughter recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
Smith is ranked as one of the top five golf instructors by Golf Digest, and has worked with some of the
best-known PGA Tour professionals. He has designed golf courses including Treetops, Arcadia Bluffs and
Wuskowhan in Michigan.
He also operates the Rick Smith Golf Academy at Treetops Resort and at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Fla.
Among the featured auction items are two contributed by Smith: a golfing package for four at Treetops
and a lessons-golfing package for four at Tiburon Golf Club.
DYS provides school support programs and educational summer camps for children with type 1 diabetes. The
gala is the group’s primary fundraising event, featuring gourmet grazing stations and auctions.
