PERRYSBURG – The community can help the Fort Meigs YMCA and Prevention Partners take steps toward keeping
children healthy and drug-free by participating in the third-annual Red Ribbon Run this weekend.
Race day registration opens 8 a.m. Sunday at Town Center Levis Commons. The 10K and 5K races start at 9,
and the 1-mile children’s fun run gets rolling just after 10. The events start on Levis Commons
Boulevard near the Second Sole store and the course will take runners around the perimeter of the
shopping district between Roachton Road, Route 25 and Fort Meigs Road.
The races coincide with national Red Ribbon Week, the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention program
in the nation reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October every year.
Funds raised through race registration will fund Prevention Partners programming in the community as well
as the Fort Meigs YMCA membership scholarship campaign, according to Casandra Michel, director of
development at Prevention Partners.
Individuals may register for races at the Fort Meigs YMCA service desk today and Saturday at a cost of
$23 for adults, $13 for children (ages 17 and under) and $37 for families.
On race day, registration at the tent near the fountain is $25 for adults, $15 for children (ages 17 and
under) and $40 for families. T-shirts will be available while they last.
Race packet pick-up will be available Saturday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Second Sole, 4130 Levis Commons Blvd.,
in the Levis Commons shopping center. Registration will also be available at this time.
Awards for the 10K/5K races will be given out to the overall male and female runners, the overall male
and female masters (40-plus) and male and female three-deep, according to age brackets. The first male
and female in the 1-Mile Kids Fun Run ages 12 and under will receive an award as well. The walk is
non-competitive, and all children finishing the race will receive a ribbon.
Also on Sunday, a spaghetti and meatball dinner provided by Biaggi’s will be offered at Waterford at
Levis Commons, 7100 S. Wilkinson Way. The price per ticket is $5 and children 5 and under eat for free.
There will be a raffle offered at race packet pick-up for various items such as Funny Bone Comedy Club
tickets, Super Suppers Take n’ Bake Party, Woodard Photographic certificates, and several other prizes.
