To the Editor: Pettit pledges change in Lake Township

In response to Marge Willman’s letter, it is true that I have been to only 3-4 meetings and yes, I did
leave halfway through the meeting in September. Mrs. Willman, this is because I belong to a wonderful
organization, Great Eastern Toastmasters, which meets at 6:30 on the same night as the trustee meetings.
Toastmasters provides me with leadership qualities as well as helping me become a better speaker. I’m
not going to apologize for trying to better myself with both of these qualities in the event that the
voters of Lake Township want a change in trustees. One of my goals, if elected would try and make the
meeting time a little later in the evening and maybe a different day so more people would have the
opportunity to attend meetings. How many can really make it by 5:30?
As for the special meeting for business people, a family member was at St. Charles Hospital that day
having a three-hour back surgery which lasted until 5:30 plus recovery. My wife was also recovering from
knee surgery from one week before that.
As for the yard signs, I have been going door to door introducing myself which apparently no one else
does considering several people have told me I’m the first one that’s ever come to their door. These
people have decided to support me by allowing me to put a sign in their yard just like the other
candidates have done. Maybe they want change.
Anyone that really knows me, knows I am trustworthy and interested in the township. I ran and coached the
Lake T-Ball league for 5 years, coached softball for 6 years and soccer for 10 years in the township. My
son and I along with his Boy Scout troop also built the shelterhouse for Fireside Park for his Eagle
Scout project as well as I donated the granite dedication stone for the park. I also have donated my
time by refinishing the veterans memorial at Lake Township Cemetery as well as donated the granite stone
for flag disposal at the cemetery.
If elected, I will be at the meetings, but there’s more to showing support for the township than just
attending trustee meetings. If the voters want change, we will see change.

Candidate for Lake Twp. Trustee
