Falcons need to stop downhill slide

Bowling Green is picking up speed going downhill and it’s not a good thing.
The Falcons lost their fourth straight game Saturday, 44-37 to Ohio University, in the Mid-American
Conference opener for both teams.
"Once you get on a roll, winning or losing, it’s hard to do the opposite,” said BG senior
quarterback Tyler Sheehan. “Losing four straight we now know that we’re going to have to fight back so
much harder to get that win and get some momentum rolling. That’s just the way football is. It’s a game
of momentum.
“Losing four straight that’s a lot of negative momentum our way right now,” Sheehan added.
Jahmal Brown, a senior captain and starting safety, thinks the Falcons had a lack of focus on Saturday.

“We kind of have a monkey on our back that we have to shake,” Brown said.
IN THE CROWD: Members of Bowling Green’s 1959 national championship team were recognized at halftime. The
team was honored with a dinner Friday night during which team members received championship rings for
their 9-0 season and the No. 1 ranking in the Small College Division. Over 200 people attended the
dinner.
Also in the crowd Saturday at Perry Stadium were former BG head football coaches Moe Ankney (1986-90) and
Gary Blackney (1991-2000)
TETTLETON: Ohio freshman quarterback Tyler Tettleton is the son of former Major League catcher Mickey
Tettleton.
QUICK HITTERS: BG’s Justus Jones caught the first touchdown pass of his college career, a 7-yarder in the
fourth quarter … BG’s Ray Hutson was shaken up with 5:44 left in the third quarter and he did not
return … The Falcons’ Freddie Barnes scored the 10th rushing touchdown of his career, but it was his
first rushing score since Oct. 19, 2006 … Barnes finished with seven receptions for 84 yards and also
had two punt returns for 71 yards … Sheehan threw for a career-high 390 yards and two TDs moving into
second place on BGSU’s career list for passing yards with 7,531 yards … After missing three of his
last four field goal attempts, BG’s Jerry Phillips was 3-for-3 on field goals and 4-of-4 on extra points
against Ohio … Senior cornerback Roger Williams and senior linebacker Jerett Sanderson led BG with
eight tackles each.
NEXT: Bowling Green plays at Kent State Saturday with kickoff at 3:30 p.m.
“We know that the season is not over. We’ve just got to fight back and do want we can to win the league,”
Sheehan said. “We’re going to see what kind of team we have by how we practice this week and how we come
out against Kent to try to get some positive momentum our way.”By JACK CARLE
