Marjorie Evadean Coker, 86, Fostoria, passed away Monday, August 31, 2009, at the home of her daughter
and son-in-law, Agnes and Al Ramsey, Fostoria.
She was born in Blackfork, Ohio, on May 7, 1923, to Lawrence Mike "Dick" and Carrie Bell
(Lommax) Long. She married Walter Wadefield Coker in 1941. He preceded her in death on April 17, 1996.

Surviving are three daughters, Agnes (Al) Ramsey, Fostoria; Minister Doris (Rev. Larry) Whatley, Toledo;
and Rev. Dr. Dona (Rev. Dr. Jerry ) Howard, Houston, Texas; one sister, Marsean Ferguson, Ironton; one
brother, Lawrence Lowell "Jock" (Doris) Long; seven grandchildren, Aloma (Jim) Ricker,
Southfield, MI; Angela (Henry ) Matthews, Fostoria; Patrick (Jennifer) Ramsey, Findlay; Larisha (Wes)
Wilcox, Cleveland; J. Elliot (Margaret) Howard, Sr., Houston; Carrie Howard, Houston; Wade Whatley,
Bowling Green; six great-grandchildren, Anthony, Alec and Aric Ramsey, Findlay; Ramsey and A’marie
Matthews, Fostoria; and J. Elliot Howard, Jr., Houston; nieces and nephews who lovingly called her Aunt
Marge; and many cousins and friends. Also surviving is former son-in-law, Robert Tucker, Fostoria.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, Aloma Lee (Coker) Tucker; one sister, Mary
Elizabeth Long; one brother, Daniel Herschel Long; and one grandson, Enrico Darnell Whatley.
Mrs. Coker retired as the cook at St. Wendelin Rectory in 1989 after more than 30 years of employment.
She was a member of Dillon Road Baptist Church, Rev. Allen Minton Pastor.
Mrs. Coker was very active in the Fostoria community. She served on the following boards: United Way,
Bureau of Concern, NAACP, Catholic Social Services and Campfire. She also served on the following
committees: Citizen – Labor Management Committee, Fostoria Bi-Racial Committee and the Fostoria City
Schools Discipline Committee. Mrs. Coker had also served as the Presiding Judge for Precinct #4.
She received many awards for the countless hours spent volunteering for the church and the Fostoria area.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday September 4th , 2009 at the
MANN-HARE-HOENING FUNERAL HOME, 407 N. Countyline St., Fostoria, Ohio.
Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. at the Union Baptist Church, Blackfork, Ohio, on Saturday,
September 5th, 2009, with Pastor Allen Minton officiating. Visitation will also be one hour before the
service at the church. Burial will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
