59th Murphy reunion held
The 59th Joseph Martin Murphy Reunion was held Aug. 9 at the home of David and Shari Schmitt in rural
Bowling Green.
President Norm Murphy gathered everyone at 12:45 p.m. for a potluck picnic dinner with 41 family members
present.
Relatives coming the farthest distance were Jim and Cheryl (Murphy) Garrett of Atlanta. Oldest relative
in attendance was Phyllis Murphy and youngest was Kendal Davis.
Milestones from the past year were announced: Pat Murphy died, Jessica Schmitt received a psychology
degree from University of Findlay, Candice Schmitt received a sociology degree from Defiance College and
Thomas Spoerl graduated from Otsego High School. Jeremy Allen wed Angela Sowlinski, and Levi Murphy
married Joanna Briner. Max and Marilyn Swope have been married 51 years. Thomas Spoerl was crowned the
2009 Wood County Junior Fair king.
JT Schmitt and Lucas Braatz won the corn hole tournament. Others swam and went paddle boating.
Next year’s reunion will again be held at the Schmitt residence the second Sunday of August.
The hat was passed and $60 was collected. Members voted to donate it to the Otsego Food Pantry.
Shultz reunion held Sunday
BRADNER – The Shultz family held a reunion Sunday at Bradner Park.
President Brian Shultz, secretary-treasurer Abby Nelson, Jerry and Margaret Shultz welcomed 44 family
members for the potluck lunch and family visit. The children enjoyed playing in the park.
The family will hold a reunion again in 2010.
