Gourd craft workshops offered

Registrations are now being accepted for workshops to be offered at the Ohio Gourd Show on Sept. 25
through 28.
Workshops presented will include: gourd drum making, decoupage, luffa soap making, chip carving, wood
burning, leather and bead trim, knotless netting, pine needle rims, faux pottery, reed and yarn coiling,
"Old World Santa" painting, use of professional grade wax-based colored pencils, stippling,
and other gourd decorating techniques.
In most instances instructors furnish the gourds and all needed materials. Some students, in certain
classes, may be asked to bring scissors and/or variable temperature woodburners.
The drum making class runs eight hours with a lunch break. All others are three to four hours in length.

Beginners as well as more experienced gourd crafters will gain valuable knowledge and skills that they
can take home and apply to their own craft endeavors. Class size is limited so individual instruction
can be given to each student.
In most instances, students leave the class with a finished project or one they can easily finish at
home.
Instructors are well-known gourd artists and crafts persons who come from all around the nation.
Workshops are offered as part of the Ohio Gourd Show held at the Darke County fairgrounds the last
weekend of September each year. Other aspects of the show include competitions for both fresh and dry
gourds, gourd artistry and crafts, trade show, children’s activities and much more.
