Bowling Green City Council Monday night failed in its attempt to fill a vacancy created by the July 31
resignation of First Ward representative Gordy Heminger.
Democrats nominated Jacob Redfern, who is their candidate on the November ballot. Republicans nominated
Mark Hollenbaugh, who is their candidate on the November ballot.
Five members of council were present, Democrats Megan Newlove, Larry Sorrells and John Zanfardino; and
Republicans Mike Frost and Robert McOmber. Democrat Terry Dunn was absent.
Four votes were needed to win the seat.
Members voted along party lines, leaving the issue to be decided at the Aug. 17 meeting, when Dunn is
expected to be present.
Heminger has taken a new job in Indianapolis.
