BG’s Powers wins national golf tourney

ARDMORE, Okla. – Bowling Green’s Caroline Powers played a steady final round Thursday to win the girls
division at the 41st annual Trusted Choice Big I National Championship. The Dornick Hills Country Club
played at 6,041 yards and par-71 for the girls.
Powers, who will attend Michigan State University in the fall on a golf scholarship, shot a final round
74 and finished with a 9-over-par 293 for the tournament, six strokes ahead of second-place Lizzie Bundy
of Clayton, N.C. Powers lead after each round of the 72-hole event.
"I was driving the ball pretty well," Powers said about Thursday’s round. "I played
consistently and tried to stay in my own game and trust what I was doing."
Alyssa Shimel, who will be a senior at Eastwood High School this fall, finished in a two-way tie for
fourth place at 303. Shimel had a final round total of 76 Thursday.
