The Elmwood FFA chapter recently sent seven chapter members to Washington for the National FFA’s
Washington Leadership Conference.
Chapter members attending were Kylie Snowden, Jessica Myers, Lindsey Heller, Amanda Peters, Shelby
George, Josh Schnipke, and Jessica McKenzie. During the week members had the opportunity to meet 150
other FFA members from all over the United States.
While in attendance, there were many occasions to experience various tourist attractions in Washington
DC. At WLC chapter members had the chance to tour the city at night on charter buses. The tour took them
to and past most of the cities memorials and prominent buildings.
On a separate occasion chapter members witnessed the Changing of the Guard, and Kennedy’s Eternal Flame.
Members also had the opportunity to meet with Rep. Robert Latta, while visiting the U.S. Capitol.
While at the conference chapter members met and talked to National FFA officers, and learned skills on
persuasive communication, character leadership, and building relationships.
Another part of the conference involved exposing participants to service learning. This portion of the
conference found attendees performing community service for the residents of the nation’s capitol.
Through this experience FFA members were able to develop an appreciation for providing assistance to
those in need.
Prior to attending the conference, members took the opportunity to tour the Hershey Chocolate Factory and
Gettysburg National Military Park. An additional stop was made at Boyd’s Bear Country.
