American Legion Auxiliary No. 240
Members of the Legion Post 240, SAL Squadron, auxiliary members, Kiwanis and the delegates to Buckeye
Boys State and Buckeye Girls State and their parents, met together for a potluck recently.
After the meal, the delegates gave a report of their week at the mock government experience.
Kathryn Shaffer presented a scholarship from the Past President’s Parley to Emily Bockbrader.
She plans to attend Bowling Green State University in the fall.
Donna Rolf read the treasurer’s report.
Randi Aspacher has been called back to serve with the National Guard. Provided were 288 small American
flags and some patriotic bunting.
Maxine Cross, community service chairman reported that the ARC auction ,netted $3,900. Several auxiliary
Ruth Peters, VA&R thanked Dale and Dorothy Daman for serving coffee at the VA Clinic in Toledo.
Cookies are needed.
Dorothy Daman reported that BGSU student Clair Large, who had leukemia, died recently.
She had made the poppy DVD. Some DVDs are still available for sale.
Shirley Davis and other auxiliary members attended the district conference and state convention and gave
their reports as to certificates and awards earned by the unit members.
Donna Rolf, Lila James, Kathryn Shaffer and Rosemarie Heilman served on the budget and finance committee.
James read the proposed budget and made a motion to accept the budget as proposed.
The cost of sending a girl to Girls State next year will be $250. Girls donated 110 units of blood this
A motion passed to cancel the August meeting as it falls during Wood County Fair week.
Kathryn Shaffer agreed to serve on the Constitution and by-laws committee. Marsha Nelson agreed to be
chairman of Children and Youth.
Ruth Peters and her committee were in charge of auditing the auxiliary’s financial books. She stated that
the books were in good shape and made a motion to accept the auditing report.
Our next meeting will be held Sept. 1. The door prize was won by Irene Michel.
