To the Editor: Otsego lease plan robs voters of a say

0

The Otsego Board of Education has decided to move forward on the construction of a centralized elementary
at a special meeting held at 7 a.m. June 29 with only a 6 or 7 voters and or residents in attendance.

I would urge residents and voters to pay close attention to the possible decision coming in the next few
weeks, as to the new way they could fund this project without taxpayers voting to spend $4 million for
construction. The board has discussed in great detail and researched a build and lease program for our
new elementary, which voters may not have an opportunity to vote on a traditional bond issue for
construction.
The board maintains the voters may not support the bond issue, so we will build it anyway possible,
because this is best for the children and the district. I believe the voters should be allowed to make
this decision, especially during these tough economic times.
I urge all voters and residents of the district to call or e-mail the Otsego Board of Education and
Superintendent Garber to express your concerns on the matter of them spending $4 million without voter
consent.
