Spots still open for swim lessons
GRAND RAPIDS – Reservations can still be made for the swimming lessons at the Grand Rapids Area Swimming
Pool.
The lessons will be offered from July 6-17 at three different times each day: 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Cost for the lessons is $50 per child.
Reservations may be made by calling (419) 832-0306.
The pool also is offering teen swimming every Friday evening, from 9 to 11.
Anderson discusses TV news coverage
Emmy Award-winning WTOL-TV anchor Jerry Anderson will discuss television news coverage during the
Exchange Club’s noon luncheon Tuesday at Stone Ridge Golf Club.
Last year the Ohio Associated Press Broadcasters named him Ohio’s Best News Anchor. His reporting has
also won several awards, including two Edward R. Murrow honors for Best News Series, the latest coming
earlier this month for his account of a young boy’s survival of a plane crash that killed his father and
brother.
He began his broadcasting career at WFOB radio in Bowling Green before moving to WSPD radio in Toledo. He
moved to television in 1980 with WTVG, Channel 13. He joined WTOL-TV, Channel 11, in 1994 and became the
anchor of the 5 p.m. newscast. He currently anchors the 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts.
PERS group will meet Thursday
The Public Employees Retirement System group will meet Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Wood County Senior
Center in Bowling Green.
Bird of prey at Grand Rapids park
GRAND RAPIDS – Mary Jane Thurston State Park will offer a program on "Hooked Beaks and Sharp
Talons" on Friday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Meet in the campground near the river for the program about birds of prey. Live program birds from Black
Swamp Raptor Center will be present, including a bald eagle.
Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult to attend all programs.
