A repair crew was busy this morning replacing a cracked gearbox in one of the wind turbines at the Wood
County Landfill.
Assistant Director of Bowling Green Utilities Paul Brock said this morning the hairline crack was
discovered during a routine maintenance check. Brock said the repair is being done under the maintenance
agreement. The affected turbine is the closest one to U.S. 6 and has been out of service about two
weeks.
A large crane is at the site to assist with the work. Brock said another one of the turbines erected at
the same time will also be checked to make sure there is not a similar problem.
